I'd like to hear more about the Travis Bean. A buddy had the guitar model and it was awesome although I remember it to be heavy. But that was 20 years ago so I could be wrong.
Charlie. I'm surprised that a Bean was "coffee table" enough for you...
Weren't they passive too?

It was actually originally white, but the red case liner turned it pink within a few years so I stripped it. 10 3/4 lbs., neck divey, passive, PITA to tune, especially living in VT In the winter and going into steamy clubs. All the very ancient recordings in my media album here are that bass, w/ various different DIY preamps, and the MM two band one we discussed was in it for the Soundcloud noise fest I posted in the main thread this morning. Some of those are PortaStudio cassete takes, even.
