Alumiweld doesn't want to wick in there at propane temps. Also i think it'll want to flood the recess for the housing. But the most impractical part is that it really should be soldered from the back, but the top is uneven and fixturing it is difficult (much easily rigged fixturing melts/is flammable)

I may just see about epoxying it to a plate. The back to back mounting idea would require another inch or so of feet.

I did find a single 12db 100hz inline passive hpf
sorry i thought it might work. when we welded aluminum at work we preheated the piece before welding it. it might need preheating in the oven or if you have a electric skillet. we heated things on a fire brick to hold the heat in the part for welding. your idea might be a better fix.

a pizza stone could help. i have seen someone use a floor tile for a pizza stone so that might work? you could heat the part on a bbq grill. seems to be getting complicated but thought i would shoot some ideas at you. i do all kinds of crazy things to get the results im after. too many macguyver episodes i guess.

It's good practice for the coming collapse of cheap goods from China/supply chain issues.

I cut out a sheet of 5mm plywood and epoxied it to that. I think this'll work and voila - a bit of damping too perhaps. For rigid materials like aluminum, wood is sort of a really stiff gasket. Took it outside to mix the epoxy and wheewww this stuff stinks to high heaven. Hope it's still good. My asperger's kid is extremely sensitive to smells - he got a whiff of even the duct sealant yesterday that I didn't really even pay attention to until he pointed it out. Glad I did this in the shed instead of the bonus room.IMG_20240501_152703408.jpg

ive used an ice cream scoop as a dolly to remove a dent in a 55 f100 fender. it fit the need.

Beat a plastic cap into the ends and filled the long tubes with a 60/40 sand mix. Was surprised how much sand I got in there, i was aiming for 50/50 and it just eats it up. More sand more better as long as it's still suspended.

You can tell a noticeable difference between the filled tubes and unfilled tubes when you tap em.

I think the appeal on this one is that it is unique from commercially viable products. Nobody wants to see guitar players play sitting down, especially electric guitar. But the foot rest that makes it a small project also makes it less generally useful. A steel frame bit enough to stand on would be expensive and weigh a ton.

Oh man that quieted the sucker right down. I'm debating if any more is even needed. The legs do ring a bit in belly up position, but it's not used that way. I realized just now that I shoulda dropped that middle spar and just mounted the MF shakers to the back of the LF shakers - there's room. That sucks I could've made the thing a couple inches shorter and closer to foot size - but I can actually get both/either foot on it this way. If the angle grinder hits this thing again I may do that but I'm not going back down to bare metal without a darn good reason.

Need to wire it up this weekend and want to get the speakon mounted so my wires are all trimmed to length and tidy. (Using Speakon because of the 4 pole thing. But kinda bummed because I don't think I'm going to be continuing this gig. Still a handy doodad and a lot of fun - it'll get used.

I got some software projects to get back to. l won't drag you guys through that. Its much more tedious

I have an ongoing sound/software project...digitizing a few years of half-hour radio talk shows I did in the 90s. I have them all on cassette, and the tapes have held up very well in storage.

I bought a Marantz tape deck with two speeds so to save time, I play back and capture each show at 2x speed, then reduce the speed to normal using the software. After that I check each show for levels, usually add some EQ enhancement for the voice. The recording fidelity does vary depending on the tape I used, but it's quite listenable.

This was a one-man show about anything audio or video related, and it was very tongue-in cheek and wacky. I'm actually rather surprised just how good they are. I may end up turning them into an audio podcast with an intro and extra for each show. Maybe I'll upload one into Soundcloud and post a link.

I have a cassette of my dad reading to us kids when I was 3 and my sister is a newborn. I had to buy a brand new cassette and transplant the tape to the new shell because the pressure pad was long gone .

One of the surprising sounds that brought back a flood of memories was the whirr of Mom's Pfaff 360. Just hearing it brought back the instant smell of sewing machine oil and cotton dust.

Finally got the required assortment of plugs cables and adapters to fire it up. The HF shakers are disappointing. They're much louder and much of that needs to be rolled off. But that frequency range doesn't really come across as well through touch either so... there's probably a reason other projects are all focused on bass shakers.

Theres a ton of audible 2-3 khz crap that will never cross a shoe but you can hear it. On second thought maybe I should LPF it around 800 hz or so and add the other two drivers with the upgraded 300w shaker from phase 1 before i tried to put these to use.
