I went to look at slabs of granite for a job which was only 1 mile from our huge used instrument shop.
They had no less than 75 Strats and probably 40 tube guitar amps plus 2 B-15's, 2 SVT's, etc. as well as tons of other misc. gear. It's never been so crowded in that space and they built at least 20 more wood guitar racks since I've been there 6 months ago. Probably 10,000 sq/ft of nothing but used.

I need nothing and am super happy with my gear. Quilter 800, GB cabinet, and either P or J bass for gigs.

But then I saw it. 100 watt, all tube, Plush, red metalflake bass head. Research says it's based on a Bassman but sounded much better to me. Really loud through a 4x10 Ampeg cabinet.
It only has 2 power tubes so the shop put in 2 more JJ's and sold it to me for $300. But I knew there would be some heartache.
Sounds great for a few hours but then 1 of the original power tubes is making noise. A very used replacement makes things much better as well as 2 preamp tubes.
So now it's headed to the shop for 2 more matched power tubes, bias check, and just general once over.
I'm sure I'll have another couple hundred in it but the tone is to die for.

Cool, it appears to be in excellent shape cosmetically at least.

Might start organizing all the parts for my 100 watt amp build today, now that the weather is finally nicer and I can stand to be in my shop for several hours at a time. Really glad I bought all the tubes a few years ago when there were a lot more options.

I miss shops like that, there used to be one in New Haven that had three stories of mostly great used gear.

My 67 Bassman is a pretty heavy load
True story:

During the demolition and construction of my new shop, I had to move an entire, fully equipped music studio, an entire welding shop, and an entire garage.

Drums, mains, subs, cables, snakes, stacks, heads, four welders, 80 gallon compressor, 3 roll-away tool boxes, generators, plasma cutters, trash pumps, jack hammers, core drills....

But the worst thing to move by far, was the Ampeg Heritage head.

I discovered the Genz-Benz Shuttle, got a T12 Shuttle speaker with a 6.0 Shuttle head docked on it for Christmas, and promptly sold my 15" Peavey cab and Sunn Colisrum-300 amp. I have never looked back. I also sold a Genz-Benz 2x12 cab that sounded lovely...but even with rollers on the cab, I wasn't willing to schlep it around. 80 pound cab? No way.

I don't own a speaker or combo that weighs over 40 pounds, and I'm not about to. You can get awesomely loud with today's amps and light speakers.
