The funny think is, with an American Fender P, even if I was standing there watching the driver throw it, I’m still not sure that I’d care or be worried.

That made me laugh audibly. If someone was here with me they would have heard it.

Well I’m sorry but I didn’t know that. I’ve been trying to get through this list of things you are an expert at and I just can’t remember them all

My band and my motorcycle club, have been peeing outside at my house, for more than twenty years. We have saved billions of gallons in water, and helped to replenish the aquifers.

You guys should be given an award, instead of indecent exposure charges.

    Sitting here like uninvited company.

    Right! They’re environmentalcases!

Anything with a spongebob gif or moe firing a shotgun in a classroom setting is probably going to be solid.

OMG… I just ate the most delicious bowl of chili I have ever tasted. It was an oversized bowl but I was hungry, having missed lunch in favor of weed wacking. I love wacking out in the woods.

Tonight, or perhaps tomorrow, after all this chili, I will become, I fear, a WMD. Or perhaps a WAD, or a WUD (U is for underwear).

I’ll leave some commas for the rest of you guys to abuse.

Awesome! I just got mine back after being at the rehearsal space since March.

If I ever get unpacked I may stuff my spare Toro pickup up it.

Today’s weird.  (Forgive the following wall-o-text.  Feel free to ignore it.)

Feeling a bit isolated.  Or maybe disconnected.

I used to climb all the time and be part of that community.  I knew everyone at the gym.  I could fly across the country and still run into someone I knew at a crag.  My partners were my best friends, and we saw each other all the time: sharing food, drink, tents, car rides, gear, stories, goals, struggles…

But we all moved away and had kids.  Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Burlington…  Some of us hardly get out.  We share occasional text messages.

There was a tragedy over the weekend–a fatal rock climbing accident.  It was on a big route in New Hampshire that I’ve done a couple times.  The victim lived one town over from me and was close in age, but I didn’t know him.

I feel the weight of the tragedy the same as I always do, but this time there’s an ache of detachment.  I have no one to talk to about it.  It would be morbid to try to bring up such unpleasantness with folks I hardly talk to anymore and who aren’t even indirectly affected.  I wouldn’t want to reach out and not talk about it, so I have to wait for the emotion to pass.

It’s been hard to make friends since I moved back to New England a decade ago.  Work friends and folks with kids the same age, mostly.  A work friendship can have real affection, but it exists in a box.  And of the non-work folks I’ve grown closest to, one moved his family back to Canada this summer, and the other just interviewed for a job in California.  Fuck.

I wasn’t doing much before the pandemic, but now it’s just ridiculous.  And my mental health has gotten such that I have to hide.  We spent the weekend with my wife’s friends (great people, don’t get me wrong, but she’s the one who has things in common with them, not me).  And I had to tell them that I would take naps and go to bed early (which I did).  It wasn’t because I was tired so much as I can’t keep up the performance of normal/cheerful for very long.  If conversations exist on a scale of 1-10 where 1 is boring, 2 is small talk, 3 is interesting chit-chat,… I quickly find myself ranting at a 7 or 8, drifting from extreme to extreme at random, swinging from tedium to shock to offense.  I just can’t maintain a 3 for long with the stress I’m under and the world on fire.

I used to read books about people with crazy intense lives: adventurers, spies, soldiers, musicians, athletes.  That kinda helped me keep a certain functional frame of mind.  But I don’t have time to read shit anymore.

Obviously I need therapy.  But the thought of paying someone to listen to me talk is just too sad and bougie to contemplate.  And if I had the time for that, I’m sure I could find a better use for it.

So yeah, I don’t know.  I have to deal with all of this weight yet somehow manage to concentrate on my (quite difficult) work in between helping to homeschool my kids.  It’s just such a goddamn disaster right now.

There is no way you are alone in this, Boney, even if it feels like it. There is so much stress out there it seems as though the very air we breathe is made of it (and it kind of is, when you think about it).
I’m not even dealing with the homeschooling part of it but I can relate to some of the other things. I’ve lived here 31 years and all the friends I made early on have moved or grown apart; some have made families and we never interact; I don’t fraternize with people at work. And with COVID all my solo haunts are locked down.
It’s hard bro. Just rest assured that there is nothing wrong with you.

If you want, you can call me and rant at me for being a “right wing wacko”

    It might be therapeutic.
