The difference is that some of us have learned that we don’t have to be right all the time and that it’s okay to change our beliefs as we learn new things. Other people are primed, probably through sociological factors, to not do that.

Well said especially on this point. There is merit to standing up for something one believes in. Not so much if it’s based on bogus.

    Facts can be tricky though.

They can, which is why we all need to learn how to tell fact from fiction in a logical and unbiased way.  When I was a kid I got sent to a class on logical thinking, for whatever reason.  I learned a lot in that class about how to reason one’s way toward a logical conclusion.  Often in college students learn about similar processes when they study philosophy and also science, since the scientific method is based on a logical process.  It has been both a blessing and a curse, because I can often see the logical fallacies in arguments people present, but I can’t walk them through the steps needed to understand why they are fallacies.  People need to be open to learning a different way of thinking and examining things, and people who are digging in on a political argument aren’t interested in that.

And I’m not saying I’m always right, either.  I can be just as stubborn at times about the things I believe to be true.  But when you prove to me that I’m wrong, I might lick my wounds, but I’ll stop believing that.

I was going to try to contribute something of substance, but I’m in the middle of a difficult document and don’t want to shunt energy away from that, so instead I’m just going to leave this for your enjoyment.

Just took a quick glance and it looks like an aggregate headline site: they are linking to news stories from other sources so they can balance their viewpoints. There were some guest opinions on the relevance of Columbus Day but I didn’t read them. I’d be interested to check back and see if there were any viewpoints or opinion pieces that seemed to lean right.

Like chleff said, an amalgamation of stories from biased sources. So not balanced. One thing I see is less pretext type headlines or clickbait but there is still some.

They way I see it, news outlets that lay claim to be unbiased won’t survive these times even if it’s true. The big picture answer is that the story is already there regardless of which news trough you choose to feed from. It will inevitably require critical thinking to distill meaning though.

It’s really hard to be unbiased (I almost wrote unbalanced, but that’s easy for me).   I applaud anyone who is trying to find neutral sources, though.  For me, the best neutral sources tend to be the wire services like AP and Reuters, but the problem with all of this is that there will always be someone with an agenda who will come along and tell you that any source you choose can’t be trusted.  That’s the bigger issue here.  Who do you believe?

Sounds like schlep. Not sure how I feel about that but I’m sure it will end up sticking like the other 2,219 names I seem to have acquired.

“Balance” is a tricky word because you can put something on each arm of the scale and there’s little guarantee that it will level out.  But if you have “both sides” you can at least make that comparison yourself.

I had a dream last night that trump mailed everyone in the country a red solo cup with the trump/pence logo on it as part of his campaign.
