Used the moka pot with some Chock Full O Nuts today…and again, I’m very pleasantly surprised at how good this seemingly cheap coffee is.

Yup. Sometimes you can tell that a product is good just by the lack of need to advertise it.

That, and Café du Monde, are my two favorite canned ground coffees.

Opened up the Kenyan beans today and put’em through the French Press.

Similar to the Eastern Market Blend, but a little different.

    Sitting here like uninvited company.

Finishing the rest of the Double French from Cleffie.

Much better out of the French Press.

    Then there’s the beignets… So good…

I bought my Moka pot, when cleff sent me those fancy beans, a year back. As soon as those beans ran out, I shifted to Chok Full, and have been using it since. I’m sure that I use too much, but I enjoy it well enough.

When I was working at the cabinetmaker last year, the whole company was owned by a firm out of Italy – Corporate would always send a team over for one week a month to monitor us and do QC stuff.  But, the point is, we had a company Moka pot – those Italians love their stovetop espresso.  Anyway, they told us to fill up the filter to the top, and don’t tamp it down or compress it like you would an actual espresso maker, but take a knife or a straight edge and just flatten the top level with the top of the filter itself.

It’s got something to do the gentle pressure that a moka pot uses versus the steam pressure of an espresso machine.  You run the risk of exploding your moka pot if you tamp it too hard…but, when you tamp the grounds, they come out in that neat little puck, so there is that.

I only use two heaping scoops, but I used to use four. However, I have the 12 cup pot, so it’s giant, and my scooper is at least 1.5 ounces (it’s from a protein shake). Even with the filter only partially filled, the grinds expand to an engorged puck, when the brew is over. (turn out the lights)

I think we would drink away any profits.

And we would all have the caffeine shakes.
