Speaking of unobtainium pedals, Nick Dunwich has just released a DIY circuit board share for one of his noise toys: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/dunwich-amplification-general-discussion.1104549/page-176#post-25202364

WHO WANTS TO HEAR MORE ABOUT THIS STUPID PEDAL?  EVERYONE??  GOOD!!

The only thing I don’t love is that music sounds okay but not great through the aux in.  The low end seems a little weak, but not gone.  I may be able to address that with a little EQ at the source.  And no one else would ever hear that, so it’s not a dealbreaker.

I figured this issue out.  The cable I was using must not have been engaging the jack properly, because the pedal was sending the left signal to both ears of my headphones.  Some music just sounded weird, but as soon as I played something with hard panning it became obvious.  A different cable fixed it.

(James Gang – Funk 49 did it.  The guitar starts out center, then pans hard right after the opening riff, and the bass comes in panned hard left.)

    Apollo VII arrived.

Actually sounds a bit like my Broughton Locust Star, with the way I set it.

The A7 is much easier to dial in.

Didn’t have time to plug it in yet. Just got it yesterday.

Someone has gone Spaceman crazy!   Jeff, as  former recording engineer, and after buying a FEA, I was getting knob crazy with fine tuning and that’s why I didn’t buy the HL.  I gather it is very nice assuming you don’t get all nutty with adjustments. Congrats.

The only Broughton I’ve ever used was the SV Pre and did not care for it. Nice pre amp but no that much like an SVT; to me.  Are the other pedals as great as reported by others?

    The JoshWah is nice.

There's something about this that's so black, it's like how much more black could this be?

I have the JoshWah and can confirm that it is very nice.

I had a Terraformer once but didn’t care for it.  Very one-dimensional for a distortion pedal.  I like ’em to be a little more dynamic, whereas it was just off or on without much subtlety.

    Just for those two.

I’m satisfied until they release a new overdrive/distortion.

Or until I can find a Mercury IV for under $300.

Folks are asking stupid money (and sometimes getting it) for the Saturn 5.

$500 and no warranty? It’s got to do more than just give me bass overdrive for that kind of coin.

    Srsly.

The VI w/tone control is plenty good for me.

Thanks to high shipping costs, my purchasing model of offering a third off retail for a used item is no longer working.

What would be the benefit of purchasing used, for close to the price of new?

    No warranty worries, I guess.

They’re asking stupid money for everything.  I’ll show them!  Two can play that game.

I’ll sell everything I have.  Then, we’ll see who gets cobbed in the end.

    Wait a sec…

I have been asking myself this question for ages over at TB.   There is some idiot that is trying to sell a Sandblasted Fender that has a non-original (and shitty) finish for more than a dead mint one go for.  He’s been trying to sell it for probably 6 months.   Dying to take some shots at that add but, I don’t.

I’m sure everyone has figured out by now: I’m a geek first and a bass player second.

Thanks for clarifying; I thought you were a rock dog with ape arms first then the other things you mentioned

More time with the Apollo VII.

    More thoughts.

I like running it at both 9V & 18V, for different flavours. No clipping/opamp mode @18V with the gain up gets a nice pushed amp distortion.

It’s interesting, in that it sounds like it has some of your clean tone blended in with the grit.
