Finally grabbed the MBD-1 from my folks’ place.

It’s now home where it belongs.

    Nice!!

Being without it for so long, it’s almost like rediscovering it.

It responds so much differently to the lil Peavey amp, compared to the acoustic b-20.

Also, I’m finding with the shift switch in the up position, if I center the tone control just right, I’m not using the clean side, or depth.

While you can color the sound of your bass a bit, this pedal overall is pretty “blank slate”

I dialed out the gain and depth, cranked the tone, then balanced the volume and clean.

How’s it sound? Just like my bypassed signal.

    Sitting here like uninvited company.

For those curious/interested in the Damnation Audio MBD-1, here’s the creator’s breakdown of it’s inception.

The blank slate setting sounds interesting.

Kinda want to get one again.

The blank slate setting sounds interesting.

Juicing the volumes essentially turns it into a boost pedal.

    Intrigued by this one

    https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SparkBooster–tc-electronic-spark-booster-pedal

It sounds pretty natural in the breakup. No clean blend needed.

I grabbed one about a year ago. It’s ok, not great. Sounds better with L-1000/L-2000 and my Gibson than it does with a P. The low end is a little thin, since it’s geared for guitar. Or rather, the frequency you’re boosting with the bass knob is at a higher peak than you’d expect for a bass. More like a low mids knob. Treble isn’t overly bright, which is good. Distortion is decent, a tiny bit buzzy though.

In hindsight, I’d probably rather have grabbed an Xotic Bass RC Boost.  The Spark may move to the guitar side of the pile.

I’m posting this here, as well.

A couple of the members in the SCTMMC thread were yanking my chain, commenting at least one pedal was crooked, and another said at least one was aligned.

    I checked to make sure I wasn’t on TB, and sure enough… I wasn’t.

Maybe you guys can… level, with me?

    Looks good!

Interesting signal chain Spidey.. not how I’d set em up but the rule is if it sounds good to you it is.

I’m not a pedal junkie.  This chain is provided to both me and you, via a standard graphic chart I got from the centerfold of Popular Mechanics, sometime in the past.

And there was a little sarcasm in putting the post here, so please take anything I say with a grain of hops.

Pretty sure it was this chart I was using as a guide.  Each of my pedals have been singularly played, but not all together.

    Octaver, Overdrive, Chorus, then Compression?

This is the last time I’m going to try to do this from memory, as this does not come even close to how I have it laid out on the board.

Aaaannnndddd, not done with it yet.

Looks like a fun little board. Or will be when you get it straightened out.

    I wanna try a Sub ‘n Up.

There is too much available real estate on that board breaux!!!!!

There's something about this that's so black, it's like how much more black could this be?

Indeed.  Plenty of room for two or three sideways pedals.

    Maybe even four mini’s.
