I mentioned in the Beer thread https://sctmmc.com/forums/topic/the-beer-thread/#post-1629 that a local TBer was doing me a favor. Well here it is:

bulliproof is quite the photographer. Here are the rest of the pictures:

He’s also going to loan me a couple from his collection: the Gibson Midtown and the ’51-style P-bass (which will be perfect for working on the bass line to I Want You Back).

Both sets are awesome. Kind of a cool thing to have.

The Coberator. My other car is a Rocinante.

    Thanks!

Yeah, next time he does a round of pictures, I’ll ask if he’ll do my tribute too, since it’s got a pretty cool refinish.

Definitely going to ask him to photograph my Kiloton when it arrives.

I own only two basses and they are both G&Ls. L2Ks rule my bass world!

    Ahh I can’t load up pixs 🥺

Here is one of the L1000s I had, dated 12/80 with the large hex poles. Probably shouldn’t have sold this one…

Most folks who read my posts in the TB G&L club will know my love of Wunkays.
    That’s a nice one.

(I’ve got my kiloton on order through the same shop.)

PS: it’s marked “used” but I don’t think it has ever left the showroom floor. It was listed as “new” until this week, but I’ve had it in my Reverb watch list and the listing never ended.

I played that very bass the last time I visited and ordered one on the spot.

I’ve seen that one a few times.
It’s pretty nice, but not 100% what I would want on a Kilo.
If I went RW, it would be black alder body, matching HS, tort guard, 1-5/8″ nut width.
If I went maple, it would be black alder body, black guard, 1-1/2″ nut width.

Yup, I hear you. Just thought I would point it out. It didn’t quite grab me, either, hence the special order.

I look forward to your CS Kilo.
    What were the specs again?
I remember spalted top and trans red finish.

Vintage-tint satin maple neck/fretboard with black block inlays, 1.625″ nut, graphtech (just ’cause I wanted it black), 3-ply black pick guard.

I want to get artsy with the pick guard, maybe some kind of stenciling, but I want to see what the finished product looks like first.

Yeah, I think (and hope) so.

It was a long road to my first new USA G&L, because for that kind of investment I had to know exactly what I was getting and that it was exactly what I wanted. It went sort of like this:

    1) put a split-MFD pickup into a Squier bass. Sweet!

    2) bought a used tribute L2k . . . it had the nice wide neck at 1+3/4″.

    3) bought a beat up old USA SB-1 . . . it had the maple fretboard.

    4) borrowed an SB-2 for a couple of weeks . . . but it had the 1.5″ neck.

    5) took an LB-100 in trade . . . it had the 1+5/8″ neck I came to prefer.

Then traded the LB-100 towards a built-to-order SB-2 with the maple board and the 1+5/8″ neck.

But the road to my second new USA G&L was much shorter:

    1) New SB-2 is the absolute bomb

    2) Try kiloton out at the store.

    Order!

    😀
