You guys are missing that the proposition in the OP is to dupe the passengers into thinking they went to the Titanic when they would not actually do that.

That is not what they actually did. They did not attempt to dupe anyone, but they could have if they'd wanted to.

Glad I wasn’t the only one who caught this. I was letting it play out because it was fun to see the turns this thread was taking. The submersible had no windows. The only view you got from the inside was on a monitor. Basically, the same view they could have watched safe on the ship, or from their couch at home.

If it werent for this forum, I wouldnt have even know that a sub had gone missing.

In my expert opinion, there are two types of media in the world:
  1. Idiotic, click bate, which has no bearing on my life.
  2. Sad, relevant, news, which has no bearing on my life.
I don't begrudge any of you who're fascinated buy it, but unless a tidal wave is coming, I don't see any relevance in the news, other than to satisfy curiosity. That being said, if it were based on fact and not opinion, I might watch it occasionally...

And again, not to knock anyone's interests... In 2010, I read the newspaper every day.

When Governor Christie was elected, I stopped reading the newspaper and I canceled my cable TV.

I immediately slept better and felt better... and as I mentioned earlier, Ive managed to navigate my life and career quite nicely. Yes... Im a bit embarrassed that I dont know who the Kardashians and Jenners are... Yes, I was likely the last person to learn the phrase "I just cant with you right now".

But, I m happy to take one for the team, once in a while...

I never said it was windowless or that they were duping people. I only said the people getting in the sub had no way to tell that they were not being duped. And yeah, it seemed a group sarcastic enough that this aspect of it might be appreciated.
Yes, LBS pointed that out about your post.

As bonin mentioned, surely we're all here to talk bout stuff. And while I will ALWAYS knock gossip, the growth of mind and opening of perspective, through intelligent discussion, can never be discounted... and that's where we differ from TB.

There's a lot of idiocy here, but's all on purpose, and never disguised as fact. No one ever bashes anyone here about their opinion... although they may question it.

I pondered all of this last night... Forums, news, and the line between gossip and discussion.

And I considered what chuck said the other day, about how we were just like TB.

I guess Ive spent so much time cheering that we're not like fb or tb, that I never considered the similarities.

So, I do still think that were unique, maybe not in our model, but certainly in our mentality.

I think that fb and tb consist of four classes:

  1. Those who come to share or learn.
  2. Those who come to set traps.
  3. Those who take the bait.
  4. Those who watch it all and learn from it.
I think in the case of TB, FB, and the news, only a small percentage are there for 1, most fall into 2 and 3, and none are 4.

Here, I think we're all 1 and 4. So I guess that's the part of Socrates/ Eleanore Roosevelt quote that's left out, which is the implication that small minds discuss people, but it discounts the fact that brilliant minds would discuss small minded people, so that they can learn to avoid becoming them.
