Watching some videos - and it occurs to me. Beyond the recklessness and halfassery of the whole thing... perhaps the absolute dumbest thing has got to be this.

If that window was an LCD monitor, he could have just dropped them 20 ft down, played the movie, collected his 1/4 mil apiece and called it a day, and nobody in the sub would have known any difference (other than still being alive.)

I think it's important to recognize "perception" and the role that it plays on individuals.

Why does one person love catfish and another hate it? Or a movie, or a girl, or a car?

Why did Guns and Roses break up when they were buried in money, fame, and women?

Why does one person love the country, and another the beach?

People go to war over this stuff, literally. It's ironic that actual life isnt hard at all, but we go pretty far out of our way to complicate the Hell out of it. If you take away credit and the relentless need to be socially accepted/ popular, life would be a breeze.

I feel bad for anyone who lives with these expectations. If any of that was important to me, I would have killed myself years ago.

When I was younger, I did care a lot about it... I even lived for it.

Now, I like my country get-away. The beach and the city are nice, but the quality of life there is such a facade.

Better to make your money off the suckers in the city, while enjoying the country.

The document is clearly written and states that you might get hurt or die.
IMO, the document alone shows that the entire engineering effort was half baked at best. Here is one example:

"The experimental submersible vessel has not been approved or certified by any regulatory body and is constructed of materials that have not been widely used for manned submersibles."

I can't imagine... As an engineer I endlessly view the world around me as "this is why it functions" or "this is at risk of failure". Everything from the robots my team designs to the tree branch overhanging wires on the road.

I would never step foot into something as half assed and risk laden as that thing.

Now, getting involved with high risk people has been a different story. ;)
