When my kids were early teens my daughter was the only one interested in welding and she got pretty good with my MIG welder.
My son had no interest.
I wanted to become a welder because I grew up in a resort town, and bar-conversations with ladies always led to "what do you do for a living".
I wasnt getting much traction at the Woolworths lunch counter, so welding seemed like a macho improvement.
Over the next 35 years, I learned that "welding" is easy, being a "welder" is not. Filth, toxicity, cost, and comfort are big drawbacks. My welding shop is 10 degrees hotter than outside air, and when I weld, the temp goes up at least another 10 degrees. Then in the winter, you freeze. Climate control is nearly impossible because it displaces the shielding gas.
I think girls are way tougher than boys, nowadays.
