I have been in love with the Jazz Bass for quite some time now but not for the obvious reasons they are generally utilized. Where the Jazz bass offers a unique clean bottom end dynamic unlike the split coil offerings of a precision bass I find the beauty in the aesthetic design and over time have gotten well acquainted with the tapered neck witch I despised early on. I have owned a Fender Jazz, Fender Players Series Jazz, Squire Vintage and Jay Turser Vintage series jazz bass. Being that I am well versed in the Doom Metal genre I need the bottom end boom of a precision bass but I have found that the Squire Vintage and Jay Turser Vintage have offered more bottom end boom than Fender Jazz, Fender Players Series Jazz and that is before any modifications were made. I run 65 - 130 guage nickel wound strings from a 5 string set on all of my basses tuned to "B" witch definitely put my tone at a lower register. I have found that by simply adding the strings I can damn near achieve what I am looking for with most basses. Below are my Jay Turser Vintage and Squire Vintage Jazz basses. The Squire Vintage on the right with the Jay Turser lefty neck has been modded from a two pickup configuration to a single split coil precision Seymour Duncan quarter pounder pickup and aesthetically modded from its original wood color to what you see now. What the listener see's and what the listener hears are enough for the listener to question what kind of bass they are actually hearing, I like that....a lot. The Jay Turser vintage on the left is really quite impressive in its stock offerings. The magnetic pickup poles are larger than one would expect from a traditional Jazz pickup, my Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound Jazz Pickup poles were roughly the same diameter but didnt have quite the depth surprisingly. I really think Im going to keep these stock pickups installed. Initially I thought otherwise but a few amp settings set me straight.

Got Jazz Bass?, show em if you got em! .(y)

Sweet that is the same color as my Squire vintage was. What does the top string tone sound like on a 5 string jazz pickup?, decent bottom thickness?, fat?. What gauge?.
I think it is a .130, sounds really full and deep, and louder than the other strings due to the 7.25" fret board radius, which brings it closer to the P U.
the 18v preamp pumps it even more if you want.

Those are awesome @NSYMSE

Working with that guy and his whole family and crew is insanely fun. I was gonna go over to his shop this morning but there were a few complications and I'm putting it off for a few days now.

Here's an overview on a couple of them, you can see me hitting on a nasty NAMM latte at the back left of the booth somewhere in there:

Yeah, the shop rats installed one of my two band bass/mid preamps without ever even bothering to tell me until like two days before they left for NAMM. I would’ve rolled something extra trick for that bass, but I guess they wanted me to concentrate on the three other showcase builds.

I’ve seen Skip from Kalium Strings order a five shot latte, I think it was like 25 bucks. The poor barista really didn’t want
make it but a few of us in the line interceded and told her it was OK...LOL.

I feel very privileged to be conversing with you, I am merely but a hack by modificational standards. I am sure you will take nothing away from this club other than bullshit, giggles and glowing reviews 😉. It is an honor fine Sir.

Thanks, but I’m just a retired hippie geezer still trying to learn some new things and have a little fun. Bullshit and giggles are all I really need, but it is nice to contribute a little more occasionally when I can, which all of us here do in our own way I think. 🌈 🦄
