I will never miss an opportunity to make fun of G&L, for anything, because I think they screwed us all with their business model and practices.

Speaking of which...

Replace Super Dave with a few craftsman from Indonesia at the shop and they'd have something besides that idiot. I don't always buy a G&L but when I do it's used (usually vintage) or from their Clearance page. I'd never order a build. This okoume monster was a great buy a week ago. Incredible neck.

I am of the opinion that the L-1000 is really the only G&L that I need. I have the L-1500, L-2000, and used to have the El Toro. I like all of them, but the L-1000 just sounds perfect to me.
I had an L1500 and couldn't get a decent sound out of it. I modded my L2000e to have full L1000 functionality as well as L2000 functionality. It's a dang Swiss army gun.

I had two (lefty) Wunkays, and traded the newer (one-of-a-kind) for a Ric of all things.
I'm comfortable with it because I know it went to a good home, and I play the Ric more than the one-off.

Once I saw that I wished I didn't already have one. You bought it?

It's another one of Leo's brain children that's distinctly Leo.

What an ASAT Special is to a Tele a Comanche is to a Strat. Those Z-Coil pickups are as unique sounding as the full size MFDs on an ASAT. I've been playing mine this week getting reacquainted with it. Not quite as fancy looking as that Limited Edition version but I like the look better with a maple neck.

Very nice! Are you the original owner?

Yes, I snagged that Comanche. Supposedly there were only a handful made with okoume bodies. I can see it through the transparent finish on the rear. The roasted neck and it's fretwork rival a US neck. Still have my US Z3 (same pickups) for sale and a '97 blue bowling ball finish ASAT special that I'm keeping.

The 1980 fretless I've had for a few years after I began seeking lighter weight G&L's and selling off the heavier ones once I acquired replacements. 8.3lbs.

I had a beautiful custom L-1500 that I really wanted to love but despised the tone and no where to rest your thumb. I feel the L-2000 tone suffers from that preamp in the circuit and is one reason so many prefer the L-1000's tone. I'll bet your passive L-2000 rocks, I remember you posting that quite some time ago. The 2012 US M2000 I'm currently trying out is the first G&L preamp I've ever cared for.

There have been a lot of B-stock instruments lately.
Is it because the QC is better or because they just plain suck at fabrication?

BTW, the G&L lightweight tuners are a direct bolt on for a Stingray and you save nearly 3 ounces. The tuners are chrome and turn easier. They were $12 each on sale (1/2 price) but they ran out.
I just knocked off a total of 7 ounces of weight with new tuners, new lightweight knobs, and converting from 3-band to 2 band EQ.

I have the Ultralights on some of my vintage G&L basses but keep the original tuners as well. $48 a set on sale was unreal, but didn't need more.

There's been more B-stock instruments and bodies in the past several weeks than I've seen in the Clearance section in three years total. The Comanche Burl Tribute, ASAT Bluesboy Semi-hollow Tribute (with a birdseye neck!) and US LB100 gold metal flake body I've gotten in the past few weeks are all in fantastic condition

The '80 L1K is December. Fretless Bull ya say? 9lbs. Love the bass, the thin front to back neck not so much. Bull is an '84; 36 #'s away from my fretted.

Two of my L-1000s are 75 #s and about 1 month away from each other. July and August of 1980. That's a cool looking El Toro
