No pun intended.. I finally received my Planet Tone Pasedena/Sheminith (rather low output) pickups to replace my EMGMondomegahyperblaster 70's in the Schechter. And I'm stuck by the sudden realization of just how much I hate soldering pickup wires. 18ga solid ... no big deal. Pickup tiny wires... umm I think i need to clean the music room or mow the grass or something

i need to find some motivation. I have several guitar projects I've run out of tuits for. Wonder if a square tuit will work

My brother's boss owed him months of overtime once. (small company where employees and management abuse each other by mutual agreement). His boss told me - "I can't afford to pay this right now, but my accountants are screaming at me. How about you just not come to work for a few months until we're even". So he had like a three month paid vacation.

Afterward, my brother told me - "You know all those things you said you were going to do when you retired? It's a lie".

I never really had an issue with soldering, but the last few years really gave me confidence. Just remember to start with more than you need, so you have enough when you have to cut it and resolder, because you forgot the heat shrink.

I had very hands-on engineering jobs for about 8 years and got pretty handy with a soldering iron. But by the time I got into modding/repairs for music stuff, all my skills were gone, so now I rely on tricks.

The first is always to prep the job as completely as you can. Get the things you want to solder out in the open and held in place by some kind of fixture or whatever so that the actual soldering part is as convenient as possible.

The second is to solder things individually before you solder them together. For example, I'll never solder a clean wire to a clean pot. I'll put a little solder on the pot terminal, on the end of the wire, and then let them both cool. Then I'll position them just so (see rule #1) and finish the job.

I like soldering. Actually I like the smell of solder. I use the old kind.

Selling solder makes me itch. I do a lot of it... including plastic welding, with a soldering iron.

I've been using this flux for a long time, with good results. just wipe it off while it's still warm.
