Because they are so complex?
They do require a lot of disassembly to do even the most basic work, but mostly because lifting them and moving them around is such a pain. And because they’ve always been extremely uncommon in what passes for my world, I just never racked up enough experience with them to learn the ropes and build the test fixtures to make life easier. I can and have repaired a Twin Reverb at component level during a set break, no chance of that with an SVT.

I discovered the Genz-Benz Shuttle, got a T12 Shuttle speaker with a 6.0 Shuttle head docked on it for Christmas, and promptly sold my 15" Peavey cab and Sunn Colisrum-300 amp. I have never looked back. I also sold a Genz-Benz 2x12 cab that sounded lovely...but even with rollers on the cab, I wasn't willing to schlep it around. 80 pound cab? No way.

I don't own a speaker or combo that weighs over 40 pounds, and I'm not about to. You can get awesomely loud with today's amps and light speakers.
it seems to go the other way for car audio. my brother has been playing with different subwoofers some are very heavy with no box. the magnets are stacked and made like they are bomb proof.

Nothing like dropping a 20+ pound missile in the back of your car to come flying forward in a collision!
you wont get these in the package tray. but some weight as much as a cast iron cylinder head. too heavy in my opinion. but if its bone crushing sound your after i guess they need to be sturdy construction.
