The most people I've ever seen get fucked up at a show was Pearl Jam if you can believe that. Also in CT (Hartford).

Security roughed up some kid and Eddie wasn't having it--jumped into the crowd. Seats emptied and the audience rushed the stage, including my punk friend and I who were not used to sitting down for shows.

The crush up front got intense, but the real problem was the seats. People were standing on them and between them--it was crazy. Then the seats started failing a row at a time, a few dozen people would go down, and a few dozen more would fall on top of them. It happened over and over again, followed by a procession of limp bodies passed over the heads of the crowd to the stage where security took them away.
Lollapalooza, 1 and 2, were similar. Eddie would climb the scaffolding, and the it was out doors, so it was all dirt, and HOT, and when everyone went nuts, security used fire hoses, which turned the first 100 feet off the stage, to mud.

At 1pm, in the heat, it felt great. When the sun went down at 9, it was like being stuck on top of the Adirondacks with a York Peppermint Patty.

First live show I ever saw (backing up Ozzy's first tour). One of the loudest, too. What?
The tie is between them and Manowar. As a musician, if you're ever looking for a stimulating read, research Manowar sound. I think the company "Tech 21" got hit start as their personal sound engineer... or something of the sort. Their live sound is epic, like a bazooka, but pure and pristine.

I'm not sure what is louder with Manowar, the music or the leather jock straps

Yup. SRV was a giant standing upon giants.
I was stationed in El Paso TX when Stevie Ray died. It was like someone shot the president. Businesses closed early, everyone on post just went home. There was nothing open but bars playing Stevie Ray Vaughan. The world stood still. Maybe it was a smaller world then
