Recently popped over to the compound inhabited by the parental units of your friendly neighborhood 'Pool guy. (Grammar nerds, beware. There's some serious run-on sentences approachin')
Picked up my "big" amp (a whopping 1X12")
To replace the diminutive 1X8" I'd been playing through for the past 4~ years.
1) I forgot how loud it is.
2) I forgot how much low-end it produces.
It was like a NBD for everything I plugged into.
Everything was big sounding.
But it also made me feel foolish.
I've spent the last few years buying up pedals, mainly the dirt/preamp type, to "improve/add to" my sound.
The foolishness set in when I realized I was trying to overcompensate for a piss-poor amplification situation.
However, as the saying goes,
"Nothing ventured, nothing gained."
WRT bass choice, I have no regrets there.
Or at least, feel less foolish about them.
The distillation process and aging of whiskey can be an arduous journey.
I'm reminded of a quote.
"Nothing you hope to be any good, will turn out as good as you first hoped."
