I watched the last half of the women's Gold medal BB game. It was a cliff-hanger! Tied more than once, and France made a 2-point basket at the buzzer that would have tied the game and sent it into OT, but the shooter's foot was about 6 inches over the three point line, so they lost by one point. That tiny overstep lost the opportunity to tie, but the clock was under 1 second when she shot so she didn't have time to reposition. Final score 67-66, and a very tough defensive game on both sides.

Yeah I don't have a problem with an Archer endorsing a leather doodad being in the Olympics. But if you make your living at it or from it... nope. And of course the Ivan Drago thing is also a hard nope but good luck calling that one. All you can do is not invite such countries.
I assume you’re referring g to the female boxer? You realize that person was born a girl right? I’ve known quite a few women that could kick my ass over the years.

I finally got around to watching some climbing and while it was super impressive, it's pretty alien from what I do. All the top competitors are all so young and skinny.

But I did a spit take when I saw a kid whose garage I used to climb on camera, watching from the USA team box. When he was 16, we dragged this kid to Vegas for a week of climbing in Red Rocks. We let him lead the hard stuff and fed him his first beer. Now he's coaching Team USA. Wild. I'm so stoked for the guy.

I've been arguing with my brother about breakdancing as an event. I love it for the creativity. Established events become so codified that to the lay person nothing really stands out. But there was a ton of variety in the dancing I saw, because these guys are just doing what they do rather than having spent their lives working towards the maximum point routine in a mature sport.

But then there was "Raygun." Lol. She's a college professor in Australia with a PhD in cultural studies who won some lower-level comps a few years back. You might have seen her:

“All of my moves are original,” Gunn told reporters after her performance (per ESPN). “Creativity is really important to me. I go out there, and I show my artistry. Sometimes it speaks to the judges, and sometimes it doesn’t. I do my thing, and it represents art. That is what it is about.”

She was eliminated from the round-robin stage of the women’s breaking competition, getting swept out without earning a single point.

As in music, "original" often does not equal "good." Sometimes it equals "Don't quit your day job."
